HEY i added some new sections to this blog, myspace is rubbish so this is our main website now YEAH?get with it. there's a releases section and i put our past zines and videos up too. here's the video for one of the WOOLF songs off our new 7", super excited about this release, they are THE coolest girl gang in london!!!!
you can pre-order the 7" from MILK and get a free collaborative cut and pasted zine.
Saturday was the best!! All-round super inspiring event, we felt genuinely moved to play to a room full of so many radical feminists . Highlights for me were learning to swear in sign language and Viv Albertine making the interpreter sign the word "M.I.L.F" several times (??!) also the Women Sing East choir was awesome. During the end of our set we started a dance party down front and were honoured to see some serious grey-haired head-banging action! oh and we got paid in tote bags and badges:
HI THERE STRANGERS! sorry i haven't posted in a million years, we have been on a hiatus of sorts but we are SO back right now !!! its spring and we're rearing to go bloooooom i have lots to say about future releases ++ a *small* tour ++ a few other things that have happened since i forgot we had a blog. in the meantime come party with us IN THE FLESH tomorrow and support The Feminist Library while you boogie:
WE'RE BACK!! tour was a brain-expanding rock n' roll parTEA mystical girl gang time, we ate a leg of lamb in a massive and empty yha in the peak district, played giant jenga, visited the tape factory, met a fashion troll under a bridge, played some awesome shows and made a super-8 split music video with our kindred spirits Glass Window...
then we came back :( oh well, i guess we'll get over it. I took a few photos and some video, that will be on here SO soon!! in the meantime here is the grass widow episode of UTRTV that Charles Chintzer Lai made the day we got back + one of us playing a show before we left town:
We played last night with our friends, the wonderful BELLIES at the Old Blue Last and we also met Grass Widow for the first time, they are AMAZING and we're super excited to be touring with them. Apart from a weekend tour we did with Bloody Knees back in August 09 we have never been on tour so we are just a bit EXCITED.
i drew this wierd poster, it has the Groke on it from the Moomins, a spirit who freezes everything she hovers over, apparently she symbolises depression and anxiety but i hope Tove Jansson would appreciate us appropriating the groke for our tour mascot, becuase playing music and creating positive things is like a way of overcoming bad energy or getting through the end of summer?? dance your cares away!! anyway We also have a load of new merch to take on tour, bags and t shirts courtesty of Andrew Milk (you should be able to get them from his webiste soon)
i have been hand sewing (really slowly, rachel is going to show me how to do it faster when we are in the car!) covers for the bootleg tape we made - it's a raucous and kinda messy recording of a show we played only last weekend! Club Milk is releasing it, its green and the covers are made of cool afro-fabric!
phew! time to go to brighton! hope to see some of you guys xxx xx x
SO i never really write anything on this blog of any real substance but other day i recieved an email on the band myspace page - it is probably th ebest email i've ever recieved, no exaggeration - so i felt inspired to write something. (click on it to make it a bit bigger)
it's from Osa Atoe who was in the New Bloods (totally amazing band who i sadly never saw play) and writes a zine called Shotgun Seamstress which if you know me i have probably told you about and if you have interviewed trash kit you definitely will have heard of cus i bang on about how we would never have started a band had we not read it - maybe that's not true but y'know when things just happen at the right time? you read something it reminds you of how you always wanted to start that band and learn guitar?? well that happened when i read this zine - and being in communication with Osa now is so cool because it makes me feel as if we've achieved something totally real, that has nothing to do with good reviews or play counts - something like communication - which has to be the whole point of making music or art right??- and that a sense of community can exist between like-minded people who are living really far a way from each other.
Reading SS really changed the way i looked at the music scene and culture around me and helped me realize that even though i've had a really culturally rich up bringing and education etc, i still have been growing up in a situation where weirdo black/queer/mixed race punks were just not part of my world in any way. It was not just an empowering experience - hearing people talking about not feeling represented and the lack of visibility of a 'brown underground' - Rachel H and i also read about US bands like Finally Punk, Magic Johnson, Younger Lovers, Hornet Leg and Purple Rhinestone Eagle for the first time which was so exciting creatively. We also got our name from an article in the zine about street drummers in Washington and i drew Ru Paul from the cover picture (above) for the cover of our album.
i feel really glad Osa contacted me because i probably would never have myself for fear of sounding like a total gross fan girl and now i'm so inspired to continue making things and make more of these amazing connections!!
yeh UP THE BROWN PUNX!! D.I.Y or D.I.E !!
/////////
check out the zine here:
also this is AWESOME:
Osa lives in New Orleans now, plays in this new part-time punk band called DENY IT and puts on shows that sound really cool - i hope we can go there one day and hang out!! x x x

meditation/greeting rachel's mum! i lost the camera that i took to ATP : ( but above is a picture of jack holding a bart simpson biscuit that we bought for the car journey - we also met Matt Groening's two sons after we played and partied with them in a small room listening to brilliant colours really quietly through the tv - wierd times! the butlins show was so fun and we learnt to warn security people if we are planning a friendly stage invaision after people got wrested off stage! oops! x x x
